POHA

IT IS CALLED FLATTENED RICE AND HAS HIGH NUTRITIONAL VALUE. IT IS ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST BREAKFAST. IT IS A VERY LIGHT AND GOOD SOURCE OF CARBOHYDRATES AND VERY LESS FAT. IT IS RICH IN IRON. PEOPLE ON A DIET CAN HAVE IT IN THE EVENING WITHOUT PEANUTS AS IT INCREASES THE CALORIES. IT ALSO CONTROLS BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS SO ITS A GOOD MEAL FOR DIABETIC PATIENTS BUT THAT TOO WITHOUT PEANUTS. IT IS HIGH IN IRON AND A VERY GOOD DISH FOR PREGNANT LADIES.INGREDIENTS

3 CUPS OF POHA

FLATTENED RICE
1 TSP SALT
1/4 TSP RED CHILLY POWDER
1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER (HALDI POWDER)
SOME CURRY LEAVES
HALF TSP MUSTARD SEEDS
OIL 1 TBSP
ONION CUT INTO LONG AND THIN SLICES
1 GREEN CHILLY CHOPPED INTO SMALL PIECES
HALF CUP PEAS
RAW PEANUTS NON-SALTED
WATER TO WASH POHA
CORIANDER LEAVES
ALOO BHUJIA TO SPRINKLE ON TOP
TOMATO KETCHUP

 
LET’S COOK IT
 
FIRSTLY TAKE DRY POHA AND WASH IT WITH NORMAL FILTERED WATER KEEPING IT IN A STRAINER SO THAT EXCESS WATER DRAINS OUT.
 
NOW ADD 1 TSP SALT AND RED CHILLY POWDER AND MIX IT USING HANDS.
 
NOW TAKE ANOTHER SAUCEPAN AND ADD 1 CUP WATER AND PEAS. KEEP IT ON HIGH FLAME TO BOIL. BOIL IT TILL THE PEAS GET SOFT.
 
TAKE A BIG KADHAYI OR ANY VESSEL PUT SOME OIL AND ADD MUSTARD SEEDS, LET IT POP UP AND IT WILL START POPPING UP THEN ADD CURRY LEAVES SAUTEONCE AND ADD THE PEANUTS. SAUTE FOR 2 TO 4 MINUTES.
 
NOW ADD FINELY CHOPPED ONION, AND GREEN CHILLES, FRY TILL LIGHT GOLDEN.
 
NOW ADD TURMERIC POWDER AND MIX IT WELL. ADD LITTLE WATER SO THAT THE TURMERIC POWDER MIXES WELL WITH THE ONIONS.
 
ADD BOILED PEAS AND IF THERE IS ANY WATER LEFT OVER AFTER BOILING THE PEAS DO NOT THROW THAT. ADD THAT WATER ALSO AND LET IT BOIL WITH THE ONION AND PEAS.
 
ONCE IT DRIES UP ADD THE POHA AND MIX IT WELL 
 
POHA IS HIGH IN IRON BUT YOU HAVE TO ADD A LITTLE LEMON JUICE TO YOUR POHA SO THAT YOUR BODY ABSORBS THE IRON PROPERLY. 
 
ADD A LITTLE WATER AND COVER IT. KEEP IT FOR 5 MINUTES ON LOW FLAME.
 
YOUR POHA IS READY. PUT SOME CORIANDER LEAVES AND MIX WELL. 
 
SPRINKLE ALOO BHUJIA ON THE POHA AND ADD SOME KETCHUP
 
SERVE IT HOT.
 
NOTE – YOU CAN ADD CARROTS, AND BOILED POTATOES IN YOUR POHA (AVOID POTATOES IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WEIGHT LOSS)
